Mary Roos - from child star to cultural asset
At the tender age of nine, she first stepped onto the stage: little Rosemarie sang in a hotel hall in 1958 – laying the foundation for an unparalleled career. Under the stage name Mary Roos, the child star evolved into one of the most versatile and enduring voices of German pop music.
In the 1970s, her big breakthrough came: With songs like “Arizona Man” and later “Nur die Liebe lässt uns leben“, Mary Roos became an icon – a voice that shaped generations. Her versatility was evident in countless cover versions, pop and schlager hits, performances in musicals, even featuring her own TV show and participating in international projects.
Yet, Mary Roos would not be the original if she hadn’t continually sought out paths beyond the conventional. After over six decades on stage – and her official farewell as a singer in 2019/2020 – it was clear to her that it was time for something new. But not for a quiet retirement.
Alongside cabaret artist Wolfgang Trepper, she launched the provocative show project Mehr Nutten, mehr Kosks – scheiß auf die Erdbeeren! under the umbrella of MEWES Entertainment Group GmbH — a sharp, cheeky satire show, where Mary Roos delights the audience with her quick wit, unmistakable charm, and cult songs.
The show proved to be a true crowd-puller: More than 400,000 fans from multiple generations flocked to the venues. In the mix of nostalgia, self-irony, and musical prowess, Mary Roos showcased once again what defines her: authenticity, a willingness to change, and the ability to touch hearts with both melody and truth. The program concluded in 2025 with a closing event against the stunning backdrop of the Karl May Festival in Bad Segeberg at the Theater am Kalkberg, with thunderous standing ovations.
Today, Mary Roos lives in Hamburg-Wellingsbüttel. For her fans, she remains not only a legend of the golden years of schlager but also a living example of artistic passion, adaptability, and closeness – a voice that never fades and a woman who always remains curious.
